What is Operational Assurance?
An emerging enterprise capability designed to keep human and AI activity aligned with organisational intent during the execution of work.
Operational Assurance is the continuous process of ensuring that human and AI activity remains aligned with an organisation’s policies, processes, controls, responsibilities and strategic intent—during the execution of work, not merely after it.
It is the layer between governance and execution. Between strategy and behaviour. Between intelligence and action. Between what the organisation says should happen and what actually happens.
The problem it solves
Assurance during execution
Strategy, governance, compliance, risk management, process design and Internal Audit remain necessary. Their presence, however, does not guarantee that requirements survive the decisions, handoffs, pressures and exceptions of everyday work.
Operational Assurance moves assurance from periodic towards continuous, from solely retrospective towards preventative, and from observing outcomes towards making timely, proportionate intervention possible.
It treats behaviour as part of the system. The question is not simply whether people know the right process, but whether the operating environment makes the intended action clear, possible and likely at the moment it matters.

From operational reality to continuous assurance
Operational Reality Mapping establishes an evidence-led view of how one important job moves through the organisation. It identifies divergence, friction and the moments where assurance has the greatest potential value.
Continuous Operational Assurance extends that insight into the flow of work: observing priority moments, comparing activity with requirements, intervening proportionately and learning from outcomes.
The value is confidence—confidence to move, delegate, automate and transform without treating control as the enemy of speed.
